Susan Boyle In Stalker Terror

Susan Boyle, affectionately known as SuBo by the British media, faced the darker side of fame this week when she returned home from recording a charity single to find an intruder on her stairs. This incident comes just weeks after the singing sensation reported two strangers peering through her back window and has raised fears that Boyle may be gaining her very own celebrity stalkers.

The rise and rise of Susan Boyle has been remarkable. Just twelve months ago she was a spinster living with her cats in a small house in Blackburn, Scotland. Her quirky ways and homely looks had made her a figure of fun to some locals and the only time that she sang was in her local church choir.

In April 2009, however, an appearance on Britain’s Got Talent would change her life for ever. Susan’s unique voice, and her down to earth personality, wowed Simon Cowell and his fellow judges and gained her celebrity fans from Demi Moore to Oprah Winfrey. Even British Prime Minister Gordon Brown voiced his approval. Heading into 2010 Susan Boyle had sold more than 8 million copies of her debut album worldwide and has the world at her feet but she is now finding that superstardom can come at a cost.

Susan had been generously working on Simon Cowell’s ’Helping Haiti’ charity single and returned home with a female friend just before 10pm. After entering her house, Susan noticed a young man, aged around 16, dressed all in black rummaging through her clothes. Seeing that he had been discovered the youth pushed past Boyle and quickly ran away. It is not thought that any goods were stolen but West Lothian police are still looking for the intruder whose motives as yet remain unclear.

Susan Boyle has remained unaffected by fame, and her new riches, and has steadfastly refused to move from her small house. "I’m not going anywhere, nobody’s pushing me out of my house", she said defiantly today.

Family members have expressed deep concern at the frequency with which these incidents are taking place, and have pleaded with her to move to a larger home with increased security to match. Susan’s brother John Boyle has even talked of his worry that she could end up like the tragic John Lennon, shot by a malicious stalker. Thankfully, we are far from that scenario now but it seems time for Susan Boyle to embrace her fame, acknowledge the problems that it can bring and ensure her security is as powerful as her voice!
