I flick through the newspaper, alighting on a page written by Fiona Phillips. I don’t know why this woman infuriates me, but she does. Regularly. This morning she has written a scathing attack on the woman who had an affair with Take That’s Mark Owen. Or one of the women, should I say.
Now, what Mark Owen gets up to in his own time is irrelevant to me, but this weeks newsstands have been rocked by the revelations that pop’s Mr Squeeky Clean, isn’t so clean after all. Me? I couldn’t care less really about his drink problem or his one night stands, or even what his home equity release rate is. It just doesn’t matter to me.
However, what rattles my cage this morning is Ms Phillips banging on about what a nice guy Mark Owen is and how he was forced into these revelations because one of the women he had a fling with was about to break her own story in the papers and Fiona Phillips thinks this is despicable.
Maybe she has a point, I don’t have a very high opinion of people who will sell their souls to the nearest newspaper for a few quid, but let’s get one thing clear, Mark Owen is the one who was cheating on his wife and he was the one drinking copious amounts of booze too. He’s hardly blameless here is he?
What I can’t stand is that Fiona Phillips is actually standing up for him. What about standing up for his wife? What if Fiona’s husband had done this to her? Would she leap to his defence? (Well, she might actually...) I just don’t understand the "Back off, he’s done nothing wrong and women like you make me sick,"mentality of women like Fiona Phillips. Mark Owen has, unfortunately, done plenty wrong so I doubt that it’s very fair for the messenger to be shot. Phillips says that Owen is too nice for his own good and that he hasn’t had a fling since he married last October and that all of his philandering happened before then. Oh that’s all right then.
No wonder so much domestic abuse goes on when there are women like Fiona saying that it’s okay for men to be almost permanently drunk and to sleep around as much as they like. Thanks sister.
