Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston sell their engagement news

The infamous daughter of the Alaskan soccer mum Sarah Palin, Bristol has been rumoured to have been paid $100 000 by Us Weekly for the exclusive announcement of her engagement to her baby-daddy Levi Johnston. This on its own is not that surprising or shocking with the flocks of other pseudo celebrities earning their salary by selling their souls to the tabloids.

What makes this story jucier is the fact that just beforehand Bristol gave an interview to People magazine, who incidentally are Us Weekly’s competitors, but she forgot to mention her engagement. When asked about her relationship with Levi, Bristol was quoted saying "We’re not totally back together, but I’m not ruling it out . . . I don’t want to get into what’s in store for our future because, who knows?"She also hid her left hand in all the pictures for People magazine to hide her engagement ring. How sneaky is that!

It is rumoured that Bristol contacted Us Weekly herself and offered the exclusive engagement story for a bit of cash. I guess you can’t blame the girl - without an education and with a baby in tow she has little chance to succeed in life, so she is making the most of her one moment of fame to try and secure some funds for herself and her baby (hopefully not just for herself to blow on clothes and botox), but it makes you wonder whether her engagement with Levi is genuine or just a ploy to earn the extra cash. If it is the latter, then you have to give the couple their due. Imagine the amount if money they will earn from an engagement, a wedding and then a divorce? Sounds like a great way to exploit their short lived celebrity status to set themselves up for life! But yet it makes you wonder whether the money is worth losing your dignity over.
